On Dec. 6, Google released Gemini, its new generative (能生产的)AI model. The tech giant calls Gemini the most capable and general-purpose (多功能的)AI model it's developed so far and has rolled it out (推出)to compete with AI offerings (用品、作品)by rival (竞争对手)OpenAI.
12月6日，谷歌发布了最新的生成式人工智能模型Gemini。这家科技巨头公司表示，Gemini是目前它所开发的最强大的多功能人工智能模型。Gemini的推出是为了和竞争对手OpenAI的人工智能产品相竞争。
Gemini can work with text, images, audio, video and code, and it will be available in three models:
Gemini能够处理文本、图像、音频、视频以及代码。它目前分了三个版本：
1️⃣ Gemini Ultra, the largest and most capable, for highly complex tasks.
Gemini Ultra是于处理高度复杂任务的最强、最大的模型。
2️⃣ Gemini Pro, for a wide range of tasks.

3️⃣ Gemini Nano focuses on swift on-device tasks.

In a press conference, Sissie Hsiao, vice president of Google's AI chatbot, Bard, said Gemini Pro outperformed (胜过)GPT-3.5 in six out of the eight industry benchmarks (基准、检测). Google's most advanced model, Gemini Ultra, beat the newer GPT-4 in seven of the eight benchmarks.
在新闻发布会上，谷歌的聊天机器人Bard团队的副总裁Sissie Hsiao介绍道，在八项基准测试中的六项中，Gemini Pro均超越了 OpenAI 的 GPT-3.5；而最先进的Gemini Ultra则在八项基准测试中，有七项都超过了GPT-4。

authentic
Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Authentic has a number of meanings including “not false or imitation,” a synonym (同义词)of real and actual; and also “true to one's own personality, spirit, or character.”
authentic一词有很多含义，包括“准确的”、“仿真的”，它的同义词有real和actual。同时，authentic也意指“性格、精神、人格的真实性”。
A high-volume (大量)lookup (查找)most years, authentic saw a substantial (重大的，大量的)increase in 2023, driven by stories and conversations about AI, celebrity culture, identity and social media.

Rizz
Oxford Dictionary
After more than 32,000 votes, and a team of language experts, Oxford Dictionary chose "rizz" as its Word of the Year 2023.

Pertaining to (有关、属于)someone's ability to attract another person through style, charm, or attractiveness, this term is from the middle part of the word "charisma (魅力)", which is an unusual word formation pattern. Other examples include "fridge" (refrigerator) and "flu" (influenza).
rizz意为“风格、魅力、吸引力”，或“吸引情感伴侣的能力”。这个词取自“charisma”一词的中间部分。这种构词方式并不常见，类似的例子还有fridge（冰箱，衍生自refrigerator）和flu（流感，influenza）。

The potential of generative artificial intelligence continues to be a lively topic of discussion. With this new technology comes new language. Throughout 2023, the Cambridge Dictionary lexicographers (词典编纂者)have added new AI-related definitions to the dictionary, including large language model (or LLM), generative AI (or GenAI), and GPT. Many existing words, such as hallucinate, have adopted additional AI-related meanings this year as well.
生成式人工智能的发展潜力是人们持续讨论的话题。新技术的发展也导致新语言的产生。2023年，《剑桥词典》的编纂者们在词典里增加了许多和人工智能相关的词汇，包括large language model（LLM，大型语言模型）、generative AI（GenAI，生成式人工智能）、GPT（生成式预训练转换器）。而许多既有词汇，例如hallucinate，在今年也额外增加了和人工智能相关的义项。
The Cambridge Dictionary team chose hallucinate as its Word of the Year 2023 as it recognized (认识、意识到)that the new meaning gets to the heart (直击要害)of why people are talking about AI. Generative AI is a powerful tool but one we're all still learning how to interact (互动)with safely and effectively – this means being aware (知道的) of both its potential strengths and its current (当前的、现在的)weaknesses.

Collins Dictionary
"AI",a term that describes "the modelling (建造模型)of human mental (精神的、智力的、思考的) functions (功能)by computer programs" has been named Collins Word of the Year 2023. Considered to be the next great technological revolution, AI has seen rapid development and has been much talked about in 2023.
"AI"这个术语指的是“通过计算机程序来模拟人类大脑功能”，它被选为了2023年《柯林斯词典》的年度词汇。作为新一轮的技术大革命，人工智能在2023年迎来了飞速发展和广泛关注。
COP28

The 2023 United Nations climate change conference, known as COP28, is being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from Nov. 30, and will last until Dec. 12.
联合国2023年气候变化会议COP28于11月30日在阿联酋的迪拜举行，会议将持续至12月12日。
COP stands for "Conference of the Parties (参与方)," referring to signatories (签署者)of the U.N. Framework Convention (公约、协定)on Climate Change — an agreement signed by over 150 governments in 1992. COP28 is the 28th annual summit (峰会)bringing their representatives together to seek agreement on goals and strategies (策略)to address (设法解决)the climate crisis (危机).
COP是“缔结国会议”的首字母缩写，指的是1992年共同签署了《联合国气候变化框架公约》的150多个签约政府。COP28是第28届年度峰会，旨在让各国代表齐聚一堂，寻求应对气候危机的共同目标与策略。
